Castleconnell Head of the River — bull and bear mascots with crossed oars

The race

Our Head of the River is a 3 km time-trial on the Shannon. Crews row the course one at a time, starting at O'Brien's Bridge and finishing by the clubhouse at World's End.

The course favours good steering as much as good rowing — the river turns, tightens, and doesn't forgive a drifted line. Pick the straightest water and you'll find seconds on your rivals.

On the day

  • Crew briefing in the clubhouse one hour before racing starts.
  • Parking and trailering: follow marshals; space is tight.
  • Hot food and tea served from the clubhouse throughout the morning.
  • Results posted to the event page after racing finishes.
